Stress and trauma have profound effects on the body, often disrupting its natural balance and causing a cascade of physical and emotional responses. When exposed to stress or trauma, the body activates its fight-or-flight response, releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. While this is a survival mechanism, prolonged activation can lead to chronic stress, affecting the nervous system and leaving the body in a heightened state of alert. This can result in muscle tension, digestive issues, weakened immunity, and sleep disturbances. Over time, stress or trauma may become stored in the body, manifesting as chronic pain, fatigue, or other physical ailments. Additionally, the dysregulation of the nervous system can exacerbate emotional difficulties, such as anxiety or depression. Addressing these effects through somatic practices, mindfulness, and trauma-informed approaches can help restore inner state of calm and promote healing.
